“The outdoor park in Eleftherias Square is temporary,” says K. Zervas
The assurance that Eleftherias Square will become a park and that its conversion into an outdoor parking lot is a temporary measure, until then the possibility of creating a parking lot is explored, repeated the mayor of Thessaloniki, Konstantinos Zervas, during tonight’s municipal council meeting.
“It really strikes me that the truth about Freedom Square is hidden for political purposes. “My personal will is to become a park that will revitalize the green and the natural environment and will remember the memory of the thousands of our fellow citizens who perished during the Second World War”, said Mr. Zervas from the podium of the municipal council.
He added, however, that “no plan alters the character of this historic point. “Anyone who supports the opposite is acting fraudulently and deliberately.” He added that in the next municipal council he will inform the House about the progress of the construction of the Holocaust Museum, while he spoke about “close cooperation with the Central Israeli Council on a variety of issues.”
“I will not accept history lessons, lessons of honoring and respecting the memory of thousands of fellow citizens. “Especially from those who serve micropolitical expediencies, who try to create confusion”, said the mayor, reiterating that he had announced the creation of an underground parking lot in Eleftherias Square, in order to give “breath” to the traffic.
“We have temporarily converted Eleftherias Square into a parking lot to take advantage of the intermediate time until the construction of the underground parking lot,” he said.
