Frau Heidi’s collection enters the Viennese museum landscape – neighboring Austria – Blog
The inauguration of the Heidi Horten Collection, which represents a novelty in the Viennese museum landscape, is rightly awaited in Vienna with great curiosity. It is located in the heart of the city and is scheduled to open in spring. It will house one of the most prestigious private collections in Europe. The patron of art Heidi Goëss-Horten (pictured), one of the few founders of museums in the world, has for thirty years been dedicated to collecting a significant cross-section of world art production, which includes works from classical Modernism to the present, including works by Gustav Klimt , Egon Schiele, Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol, Marc Chagall and Gerhard Richter.
The Stöcklgebäude annex inside the Hanuschhof building will host the exceptional collection. It is a building in the historic center of Vienna built in 1962 and nestled between the State Opera, the Albertina and the Burggarten gardens. The careful restoration work started in the summer of 2020 provided for a complete emptying of the interiors, as well as a restoration and greening of the facade. 1,500 square meters of exhibition space will be available here on three levels spread out and apparently suspended in the air. Contemporary art will also play a leading role.
