The holidays are a privileged period for the hand to his neighbor. This is what Marie-Hélène Garnier did, a director from Rouen (Seine-Maritime) who shared a friendly moment with 3 Afghan artists. They fled Kabul last August when the Taliban regained power.
In a small house in Rouen, we repeat a few sentences learned not long ago, Three Afghan women, artists and activists are present, They had to flee their country for what they are and found refuge in France last August. Maryam is an actress, her name ended up on a list of people threatened with death.
“I did a few art projects that put my safety at risk. I couldn’t continue my but despite my will. I was always aware that no matter what I did, it could put me or my family in danger. The good thing here is that I am finally free “, explains Maryam.
Shogofa, she was welcomed on November 19 at Marie-Hélène Garnier, director from Rouen. Before arriving in France, she painted and drew exclusively in black. Today, thanks to her lessons, she discovers color and new sources of inspiration.
“I don’t just represent Afghanistan or France. But when I went to Caen from Rouen, I saw trees like the ones I painted here. So I just imagine what it could be like and I combine ideas. “
These young women were able to meet Marie-Hélène Garnier through the various dramatic centers of Normandy, who decided last August to welcome and support exiled Afghan artists. “It’s going really well because we have something chosen in common, it’s the artistic world,” said Marie-Hélène Garnier.
We are a country of solidarity and welcome. And that, we must not forget.
