If all goes well, 2022 will bring 7 big new music festivals to Portugal
Musical events have multiplied in recent decades. Now, the list gets longer with Sónar, Rolling Loud or Kalorama.
Portugal is a country of festivals. Throughout the 21st century, major musical events multiplied and became super popular in our country. Generalist festivals triumphed, events centered on specific niches as well.
In 2018, according to data released by Aporfest – Portuguese Association of Music Festivals, 311 festivals were held in Portugal. Not total, it must have mobilized about 2.7 million spectators. Of course, most are small or do not fit exactly into the concept that many have of festivals, but it is an indication of the enormous amount of events of this kind that have occupied the country, from north to south, over the last few years.
The pandemic, of course, stopped this trend. But the news never introduces to be announced. Several festivals that were going to debut in 2020 in Portugal are now scheduled for 2022. And many others were announced during this year of 2021.
This means that if a pandemic slows down and restrictions can also be readjusted, the next year could be historic in that sense – we don’t remember another year when so many new large-scale festivals were announced, several of them internationally renowned.
