NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has decided to hold a meeting of the NATO-Russia Council on 12 January. Reported by the agency Anadolu citing sources in the alliance.
“We are in contact with Russia on this issue,” the source said.
On the same day, a meeting of the chiefs of the General Staff of the NATO member states is to be held in Brussels.
Formerly the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maria Zakharova clarifiedthat the key topic at the upcoming talks with the United States and NATO will be the issue of not expanding the alliance to the east.
On December 15, the Russian Foreign Ministry handed over to the American side the agreements between Russia and the United States on security guarantees and agreements on security measures of the Russian Federation and the NATO member states. The document, in particular, says that the United States is creating military bases in the territories of the former USSR countries that are not members of NATO. The United States also does not use their infrastructure for combat activities. NATO countries, according to the document, conduct any military activity on the territory of Ukraine, as well as other states of Eastern Europe, Transcaucasia and Central Asia.
In the Kremlin later notedthat Moscow is interested in getting a response to its proposals as soon as possible, but there is no deadline.
