Russia and Armenia signed a program of interregional cooperation for 2022-2027
The 20th regular meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between Russia and Armenia was held in Yerevan under the chairmanship of the Deputy Government of the Russian Federation Alexey Overchuk from the Russian side and the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Mher Grigoryan from the Armenian side.
The Ministry of Economic Development of Russia organizes this work as the Secretariat of the Commission under the leadership of the Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation Dmitry Volvach. Director of the Department for Development of Integration Projects and CIS Countries Ilya Fedorov took part in the event on behalf of the Ministry.
During the meeting, they discussed the development of bilateral cooperation in the trade and economic sphere, interregional interaction, energy, industry, transport, agriculture, finance, health care, culture, science, education, the humanitarian field and justice.
The parties from the moment of the previous 19th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission, despite the world situation associated with the coronavirus infection pandemic, the level of bilateral interaction is systematically developing.
“Russia remains Armenia’s leading trade partner, strong ties with overcoming the consequences of the economic downturn caused by the pandemic. In January-October 2021, the trade turnover between our countries amounted to 2.1 billion US dollars, which is 9.3% higher than the same period in 2020, ”Ilya Fedorov said.
New areas of cooperation have been identified that allow achieving new indicators of trade turnover between Russia and Armenia. Also a recommended area for attracting mutual investment.
During the Intergovernmental Commission, it was decided to establish a Russian-Armenian Business Council, the main goal of which will be the creation of new projects and ideas, the creation of new industries and, in general, the intensification of investment cooperation. They also decided to create a joint Russian-Armenian working group on economic and investment cooperation under the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia and the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Armenia.
Following the meeting, the Interregional Cooperation Program for 2022–2027 was signed, which is designed to ensure the implementation of a set of measures to develop interregional cooperation. It contains the main goals, objectives and priority areas such as trade, industry, transport, healthcare, education, science, culture and tourism. Expansion of interregional ties between Russia and Armenia. The parties will regularly monitor the results of the implementation of programs and programs of activities.
