Index – Domestic – Judit Varga: The new German government must respect Hungary’s sovereignty
In an interview published on Die Welt’s news portal on Friday about the coalition of the German Social Democratic Party (SPD), the Greens and the Liberal Democratic Party (FDP), the minister emphasized that the new German and Hungarian governments were “ideologically fundamentally different”, but this difference should not prevent cooperation.
On the question of whether the rule of law or the controversy over migration policy would not have a negative impact on the relationship between the two governments, he stated that
“The conflict over the rule of law is ideological in nature” and is not about specifics.
Such debates only serve as a tool for action against Hungary, Judit Varga explained, underlining:
“We demand that the new federal government respect our sovereignty,” along with migration policy and family policy.
He added that “German policy should not be extended to other countries” so that if the Germans want to make their country an “immigrant country”, it is only their decision and “it does not apply to us”.
On the question of whether the German government is experiencing the admission of migrants to other countries, he said, he sees “the aim is to initiate infringement proceedings against us”, ie “Hungary is threatened with punishment because we are pushing for innovative solutions in migration policy”.
The allegation that the infringement proceedings are not being pursued by the German government and that the disputes between the Hungarian government and the European Commission are being criticized by the German government as “an excuse for the rule of law” and “accusing” ”That it does not comply with European Union law.
However, the provision of borders is a national competence and “we do not want to control migration, it must stop it”, and the rule of law has more than one “template”, and the debate on this has become a “tool of ideological blackmail” against the Hungarian government. he explained. the Minister of Justice.
The claim by the Greens and Liberals that there are problems with the rule of law in Hungary “does not mean that this is true”
Judit Varga said, adding that “there is no evidence” of such allegations.
Speaking about the recent decision of the Constitutional Court on the relationship between the community and the law, he emphasized that “even the usually national critical opposition is silent on the matter” because the decision shows that “Hungary is definitely pro-European”. Regarding the decision on the issue in Poland, others said that the press “attacked Poland”, the Polish Constitutional Court ruled that the national constitution took precedence over European law in certain areas where it did not have exclusive competence.
The Minister highlighted:
Hungary has never been about confronting European law, but it needs to be adapted to realities.
As an example, he explained that EU migration regulations date back to “peacetime”, when mass migration did not yet exist, so that rejected asylum seekers “often simply stay longer” in the EU. However, when “we find an alternative to this and many other impossible things, the EU punishes us,” he said.
He spoke of the rule of law mechanism, which linked the allocation of EU aid to the rule of law: …) They are not used to blackmail us ideologically ”.
Now, however, we have been deceived, partly because ideological blackmail continues and partly because we are not getting our money from the reconstruction fund because of our child protection law.
