Russian trailer “Get behind the wheel of my car” by Ryusuke Hamaguchi based on a story by Haruka Murakami
Ryusuke Hamaguchi – Director of the Year. In 2021, two of his paintings at once – “Chance and Guess” and “Get behind the wheel of my car” – received awards at the Berlin and Cannes festivals, respectively. The adaptation of Haruki Murakami’s story “Get behind the wheel of my car” was shortlisted for the Oscar in the Best International Film category from Japan.
The film tells about the famous theater director Yusuka Kafuku (Hidetoshi Nishijima), who, two years after the unexpected death of his wife, receives an offer to stage the play “Uncle Vanya” at the festival. There he meets Misaki Watari (Toko Miura), appointed by the festival to drive him in his beloved red Saab 900. As the premiere approaches, tensions rise between the cast and crew as the director is confronted with the secrets left by his wife.
The world premiere of “Get behind the wheel of my car” took place at the Cannes Film Festival this year. The drama won the Best Screenplay award. At the end of 2021, the picture hit all sorts of ratings for the best films from The New York Times, Cahiers du Cinéma to IndieWire and Metacritic. The tape was shortlisted as a Japanese nominee for an Oscar in 2022.
The Russian premiere of the film is scheduled for March 31, 2022.
