New bridge over the Vltava: Prague 5 wants to name it after Havel
The new bridge will connect Prague 4 with Prague 5 and the municipality plans to start its construction in the middle of next year. The construction takes two to three years. The bridge will serve trams, buses, cyclists and pedestrians and aims to improve transport connections on both banks of the Vltava.
According to the Prague 5 councilors, the proposal to name the Havl Bridge refers to the first Czech president Václav Havel, but also to his grandfather Václav Havel and uncle Miloš Havel. The second proposed name is then based on the topography, on the left side of the river it has the most mouth in Zlíchov.
However, the municipality now announces the most as Dvorecký, according to the management of Prague 5, the name Zlíchovský is more appropriate. “The location of the bridge was originally planned to end in the place of the original settlement and today’s public transport stop Dvorce, but in preparation it was moved north and most of them do not go to Dvorce today,” the document said. one of the most difficult battles during the Prague Uprising at the end of World War II.
The eastern exit of the bridge will be at Žluté lázně north of Jeremenkova street, the western one will lead near the Lihovar tram stop. It will be 388 meters long and 16 meters wide. The construction includes both bridgeheads, including a footbridge for cyclists, retaining walls and works of art. Part of the project is the design of a new tram stop.
The naming or renaming of the public space in Prague is approved by the City Council. Suggestions can be submitted by anyone. The proposals are first discussed by the town hall of the relevant city district. After approval by its management, it is forwarded to the municipal topographical commission. If he agrees with him, he will then be discussed by Prague councilors. According to the law, the naming of public spaces must not be after anyone living.
