Brussels is one of the slowest cities in the world
You don’t have to tell the average commuter that Brussels is no fun to drive on. Now there is also new data to back up that feeling. And it’s even worse than you think, wan feeling with 25 other world cities from Europe and the Americas, Brussels is doing really bad. With the exception of London and Paris, the file problem is nowhere greater than in our capital. If you’re looking for the city with the slower speed, only Italian Palermo does worse.

congestion
The file problem is measured by the number of hours lost, the density of the road network and the speed over one mile (about 1.6 kilometers). In Brussels you will spend an average of 134 hours through traffic jams in 2020, only London and Paris do worse and 140 hours do even worse. Compared to 2019, Brussels has 22 places. As if there has been no crisis in our capital, because the corona congestion is only 4% lower compared to the period before Covid-19. For example, Bogota (Colombia) has seen its stocks drop by more than half due to the pandemic, resulting in it dropping from first to eighth place.
Slow, slower, slowest
The average speed in Brussels is 16 km/h. Only Palermo does worse at 14.4 km/h. In London and Paris you drive at around 17.6 km/h, in New York 20.8 km/h and in Moscow even 25.6 km/h. Now we have to put things in the right perspective. Belgium and therefore Brussels have never been locked, as has been the case with other cities. In addition, a general speed limit of 30 km/h has started and there were real works in our capital, which causes more congestion and therefore a lower speed. In any case, the improvements to improve mobility and traffic flow seem to have no effect. rather the contrary.
