a survey reveals the doubts but also the hopes of doctors
The past two years have been particularly difficult for physicians. Between care, testing or vaccination, these health professionals were put under pressure. So, at the dawn of this new year, what are their fears? But above all, what are their hopes?
To answer these questions, MediQuality – a digital platform for healthcare professionals – carried out a survey between November 15 and December 1. 717 doctors took part. Among them are 305 general practitioners (42.5%) and 412 specialists (57.5%).

“General practitioners were mainly active in private practice. Just over half (54.1%) of specialists practiced in hospitals, 21.8% in private practice, and 24.0% in both hospital and private practice. The five specialties most represented among the respondents were psychiatry, anesthesia, pediatrics, dermatology and gynecology“, specifies MédiQualité.
The year 2022
How do doctors see the coming year? “Some 61% of general practitioners / specialists believe that in 2022, the situation related to the Covid-19 pandemic will not change much compared to 2021“, it emerges from the survey. Conversely, 30% of participants still envisioned an improvement in the situation.
Specialists more optimistic than generalists
Considering the current health situation, “50% of general practitioners 31% of specialists see a negative professional future“. On the other hand, they are only 11% to foresee a positive professional future.
From a financial standpoint, 69% of physicians believe they see no change in their financial situation. On the other hand, “youn in four doctors believe their financial situation will be worse than in 2021“.
Fears and doubts considered
Note that one of the main fears of all specialists and general practitioners is directly linked to the health situation. Indeed, 81% of doctors fear the appearance of new waves of coronavirus.
Another fear expressed by the participants concerned working conditions. They are 77.8% to fear their deterioration.
The stagnation of the professional career (13.5%), the decrease in income (9.8%), the loss of employment (3.1%) or the deterioration of the essence of work (2.2% ) are also among the fears expressed by doctors.
What hopes?
Finally, let us come to the hopes expressed by doctors.
“For 2022, the wishes and hopes of the doctors questioned are: awareness of the fragility of the health care system leading to concrete government actions (74.2%), the development of more effective anti-Covid treatments and an improvement vaccines (64%), and stabilization of the pandemic (51.5%)“, conclusion of the MediQuality survey.
