Scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center Roman Vilfand in an interview with “Parliamentary Gazette” warned Russians about the rise in the number of extreme events amid global warming.
According to the expert, the climate in Russia is moving faster than the world average. This is due to the fact that Russia is a continental country and is located in temperate and high latitudes.

According to the head of the Hydrometeorological Center, the increase in climate will be drier, while in the north, on the contrary, there will be more precipitation. “In addition, extreme natural events await us. This is especially true of the unusual heat in summer, “- said the scientist.
In his opinion, global warming may lead to the melting of permafrost, in turn, will lead to “the most unpleasant consequences.” This process also threatens the sustainability of buildings and structures in this zone.
Earlier, Vilfand said that temperatures are expected to be 16-20 degrees below normal in the coming days. According to him, extreme frosts await residents of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug and the north of the Krasnoyarsk Territory. There the temperature will drop to minus 41 degrees. According to Vilfand, cold air masses come from the circumpolar regions, namely from Taimyr.
