Russia has ceased to be “enemy number one” for the United States: Politics: World: Lenta.ru
American political scientist Veronika Krasheninnikova in an interview with Ukraine.ru toldwhy Washington made concessions to Moscow on Nord Stream 2, excluding sanctions against the gas pipeline, Russian external debt and some individuals from the defense budget. According to her, Russia has ceased to be “enemy number one” for the United States and now they are gathering forces to confront China.
“With regard to Nord Stream 2, this is a concession, first of all, to Germany, because the US is interested in transatlantic relations, including with the new government of Germany, which was announced,” the expert said.
In her opinion, US President Joe Biden showed his independence from all kinds of advisers and critics, since there are a large number of those in White. Despite this, the American leader chose a different approach, the political scientist noted. She stressed that such a policy is most likely due to the fact that Biden understands that the United States can simultaneously fight on two fronts – with Russia and with China, so she turned Moscow into the category of enemy number two in order to focus on confronting Beijing.
Earlier it is known that the US Senate will consider a bill on sanctions against the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline until January 14, 2022. Such terms of consideration were named by the leader of the Democrats in the upper house Chuck Schumer.
