Only Russia and the United States should negotiate security guarantees – Rossiyskaya Gazeta
The Nordic and Baltic countries are demanding space for negotiating security guarantees only to derail them. This opinion was expressed by the chairman of the Federation Council commission on information policy and interaction with the media, Alexei Pushkov.
The heads of the defense ministries of these countries “immediately made a statement about the unacceptability of the Russian demands, which was to be expected,” the Russian senator wrote on his Telegram channel. It is precisely the main negotiations on security guarantees that should be conducted between Russia and the United States, as in their time negotiations on the INF Treaty.
“As the history of relations between the United States and only Russia shows, the prospect of such agreements that will strengthen their mutual security depends,” Pushkov said. According to him, no NATO country, except the United States, depends on the United States. If such agreements are reached with Washington, an agreement with NATO will not be required due to its senselessness.
“It’s another matter if the United States wants to hide behind the opinion of its allies in order to abandon Russia, which is serious from the point of view of their own security,” concluded Pushkov.
Earlier, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that Moscow proposes exclusively negotiations on security guarantees on a bilateral basis, the involvement of other countries would make no sense. “We offer negotiations on a bilateral basis with the United States. He added that the Russian authorities are expressing their readiness to begin negotiations with their American colleagues on security guarantees at any time.
