General Director of the ANO “Russia – the Land of Opportunities” ran an ice marathon in Antarctica – Sport
MOSCOW, December 18. / TASS /. General Director of the Russia – Land of Opportunities platform Alexei Komissarov became a Russian participant who ran an ice marathon in Antarctica. This was reported in the press service of the platform on Saturday.
Aleksey Komissarov, general president of the Russia – Land of Opportunities presidential platform, ran the Antarctic Ice Marathon (42.195 km) in 4 hours 58 minutes and 9 and entered the top 10 seconds of the best marathon runners, and also covered an additional 10 km after the end of the competition. In total, Aleksey Komissarov ran more than 52 km on the ice surface of Antarctica in 6 hours 27 minutes and 40 seconds, ”the press service emphasized.
In addition, Komissarov became the only participant in the marathon from Russia in 2021, the press service added. The winner of the marathon among men was a participant from Poland – Grzegorz Bohunia with a result of 3 hours 53 minutes and 2 seconds. Among women, Evija Reine from Latvia became the winner, setting a new record among women with a score of 4 hours 6 minutes and 11 seconds.
As noted in the press service of the ANO “Russia – Land of Opportunities”, the Antarctic Ice Marathon is considered one of the most difficult extreme marathons on the planet. In 2021, it was held for the 16th time, 62 athletes from 20 countries of the world entered the start of the distance. “Weather conditions and terrain vary from year to year. The air temperature in the race area ranges from 10 to 20 degrees Celsius below zero. The marathon race is a 10.55 km loop located in the vicinity of the camp.
