Russia bans entry to seven UK citizens in response to Navalny sanctions

On December 17, Russia announced a travel ban for seven British citizens in response to similar sanctions imposed by the United Kingdom in connection with the poisoning of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny. In August, the UK Foreign Office announced action against seven senior Russian security officials for their alleged involvement in the summer 2020 nerve agent poisoning of Alexei Navalny.
Moscow has banned the entry of seven British citizens in response to the “consistent unwinding of the sanctions flywheel.” The Foreign Office on Friday announced sanctions against seven “British representatives who are closely involved in anti-Russian activities.” In accordance with restrictive measures, they are denied entry into the country.
These measures were a response to restrictions imposed by London in August 2021. Then Britain added seven FSB officers to the sanctions list, as it considered them involved in the poisoning of opposition leader Alexei Navalny.
