In Advent, we present to our readers what Christmas looks like in individual parts of Prague this year. The ninth part of our capital has prepared for its citizens the festive lighting of five Christmas trees or skating on two ice rinks. This year, children can also enjoy the festive atmosphere in full thanks to the large Christmas house, which is located in the Černý Most shopping center.
Tree lighting, workshop for children and goodies to eat
Prague 9 opened the holidays on November 27 with the help of workshops for children, where clever children could make Christmas decorations. On the tenth day, the inhabitants of this part of the city also saw the first parting of the Christmas tree in the U Brabců garden, where the Brass Ensemble of the Grammar School and the Music School of the Capital City of Prague performed. In addition to traditional Christmas events, people could also taste popular game specialties.
On November 28, a double lighting of the trees took place. People could see the newly decorated tree in Václavka Park in Střížkov and in Zahrádky Park in Vysočany, where the band Nouzový východ or an acting group from the Gong Theater performed.

Friendship Park in Prosek experienced its own ceremonial lighting of the tree on December 1. On this occasion, a choir called Choir Wings sang and the audience danced to the dance group Wiggle dance.
The last big lighting of the Christmas tree was organized by Devítka on December 2 at U zvoničky in Hrdlořezy, where the city part of the participants promised toasting burgers or the possibility of buying mulled wine before the deteriorating situation around the coronavirus.
Nine offers two ice rinks
Lovers of skating in Prague 9 can skate on two ice rinks. Until 31 January, those interested can visit the ice rink at the Černý Most department store. The rink is open every day in four time blocks, from nine to twelve, from half past one to three, from three quarters to four to six, and from half past six to nine in the evening. One-time entry per hour is 100 crowns. There is also a skate or helmet rental, and there are also ice skating classes for children.
Those interested will also enjoy winter fun on skates in Podviňák Park. The area is open from ten o’clock in the morning to nine o’clock in the evening. Adults pay 80 crowns for an hour of skating and a child under the age of six 50 crowns, while the family entrance fee in the form of 2 + 2 is 270 crowns. The rental fee for skates costs 80 crowns.
Santa’s ride
Despite the tightening of government measures due to the coronavirus of its inhabitants and visitors, it did not deprive them of the type of gift. Mikuláš, the devil and the angel, into whom the mayor Tomáš Portlík (ODS), the deputy mayor Adam Vážanský (ODS) and the head of the culture department Daniela Vlachová, took over in some nine kindergartens on 3 December.
On December 4, a large gift took place on the premises of the Kilián brewery. In addition to gifts from MIkuláš, devil and angel, the children also received a puppet treatment of the fairy tale Dlouhý, Široký and Bystrozraký or workshops in which young and old could make Christmas decorations.
The well-known trio also appeared on December 5 in the Černý Most shopping center. Children equipped with a themed costume could skate with Mikuláš on the rink and get an unforgettable experience.

On his Facebook profile, the mayor of Prague 9 also boasted of Christmas wishes to Santa Claus, which were created in schools by skilled pupils. Although Santa’s wishes are in most cases smiling and cute, this year the cantors, parents and the mayor of the Nine himself had to read somewhat sad children’s desires and pleas. Most students want the end of the coronavirus pandemic and that people be better off.
“The children at our primary schools wrote wishes to school Santa. I have chosen two for you for all of them. The others are very similar. I would have imagined or imagined such a wish a few years ago. The epidemic teaches us all to appreciate what is really important. On behalf of Prague 9, I promise our children, pupils and parents that we will help Santa’s parents as much as possible next year so that not only these wishes can be fulfilled, ” wrote the mayor of the ninth district on Facebook Tomáš Portlík.
Christmas house on Čerňák as from the film Alone at Home
The Černý Most Center has prepared a big surprise for all young visitors. On Central Square, a Christmas house the size of a real family house awaits them, which is full of paths, corridors, climbing frames, ball pools, slides, climbing chimneys and game nets. They can even find a climbing wall in the original climbing frame. In addition, the attractions are accompanied by individual sound effects, so it is an interactive building full of fun. A maximum of 12-year-old adventurers can climb the house, which reaches a height of almost five meters, free of charge daily from 10 am to 6 pm until 23 December.
The construction of a Christmas wooden house weighing an incredible 12 tons took ten nights. Children can explore the beautiful building reminiscent of the legendary house from the film Alone at Home under the supervision of experienced animators who guard the safety of young visitors.
Gift wrapping and live nativity scene
The mentioned shopping square for citizens has also prepared a charity gift wrap, which is produced by Christmas from December 20 to 23. The participants of the event can also look forward to famous personalities such as the singer Jitka Boho, the actress Lucia Benešová or the influencers who call the Two Dads. Proceeds from the event will go to support the YogaHelp Foundation.
From December 17 to December 19, visitors will also come across a live nativity scene before the western entrance to the center.
