Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitro Kuleba: Moldova has accepted and started a direct dialogue with Russian puppets, Ukraine will not repeat mistakes – News by sources
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitro Kuleba said that once the Donbas conflict is resolved, Ukraine will not repeat the mistakes Moldova has made in resolving Transnistrian issues.
As reported by Infotag, he mentioned this in his article for Foreign Affairs, Știri.md reports.
In particular, Kuleba ruled out the possibility of “unilateral concessions to Moscow.”
“For example, Moscow has long called on Kiev to have a direct dialogue with Donetsk and Lugansk, two Russian-occupied regions in eastern Ukraine.
Ukraine has rejected this request for obvious reasons: Russia is a party to the conflict and we will not allow it to position itself as a mediator, “Kuleba said.
He stressed that “historical experience shows that the demand for direct negotiations with the occupying authorities is unlikely to satisfy Russia.”
He recalled that “after the escalation of the armed conflict in the Transnistrian region of Moldova in 1992, Moscow asked Chisinau to have a direct dialogue with Tiraspol, with its participation in the role of mediator.”
“Moldova has accepted and started a direct dialogue with Russian puppets, hoping that this step will help resolve the conflict and restore territorial integrity.
In 1994, Moldova made another attempt to promote a regulation, officially proclaiming that it would not be part of military blocs and giving up the move to join NATO.
What was the result of these concessions? Three decades of “frozen” conflict and no regulation. The Russian army and weapons still remain in the Transnistrian region of Moldova, “Kuleba said.
