Opera Ball 2022 in Hanover is canceled
No kisses in the opera: The opera ball, which should take place on February 18 and 19 in the State Opera, is canceled. The motto of the event should have been “Bésame mucho” – which translates as “Give me many kisses”. In Corona times, that might be a rather inappropriate motto. Now the decision-makers have to cancel the ball.
“According to the current regulation, an event with numerous artist groups and with over 2000 guests who laugh, dance and dine together would not be feasible,” said a statement from the opera. Director Laura Berman said: “Due to the long planning runs and agreements with partners, it would be irresponsible to everyone to continue planning into the unknown. That is why we have now made this difficult decision and will have to do without the most beautiful ball in the north in 2022. ”
Third year in a row without the Opera Ball
Also this year – due to the corona pandemic – no opera ball could take place. And even the year before there was no opera ball; the new director Laura Berman wanted to concentrate in her first season on setting more artistic accents.
Most of the tickets for the Opera Ball have already been sold. They will be automatically canceled and will be registered as a voucher in the next few weeks. The ticket service is available at the box office in the opera and theater, by phone on (0511) 9999 1111 or by email at [email protected] available. A transfer to the year 2023 is not possible for organizational reasons.
A touch of South America
The Opera Ball is one of the most important social events in the city. Under is always under a motto that some guests want to live up to through their choice of costume. For the Opera Ball 2022, with the motto “Bésame mucho” (based on the famous song by the Mexican composer Consuelo Velázquez), a touch of South America should waft through the State Opera.
For the first time, the State Opera entrusted an agency with the concept for the event. The party makers of Flora & Faunavisions from Berlin, active worldwide and among others awarded the German Design Award in 2020, wanted to create a “colorful southern ambience that exudes joie de vivre” in the opera house. A Latin American marketplace, coffee house and tavern as well as exotic flower compositions and modern lighting design were planned.
Opera ball a “wrong signal”
The opera ball in Hanover was canceled relatively late. The “Semperopernball”, the war planned for January 28th in Dresden, has already ended, as has the famous Vienna Opera Ball, should it take place on February 24th. At both houses it was said that due to the corona-related development, it would be the wrong signal to hold an opera ball.
