Could it be a harbinger of the end of the cardboard package, four times the size of the item ordered and which can then be pinched to fit into the trash? In any case, this is the ambition displayed by the two co-founders of Havre. from Hipli, Anne-Sophie Raoult and Léa Got, who intend to make their baby “the parcel of tomorrow “.
Their idea? Plastic packaging, strong enough and well designed to be reused a penny of times. Designed like a k-way, it folds up and returns in a small pocket attached to the inside, in letter format and already franked to the address of their company, which then takes care of cleaning it and putting it back on.
A fleet of 120,000 packages
Launched in 2020, the concept has already attracted more than 250 customers in July, including major brands, such as online sales giant CDiscount, Clarins and big names in the textile industry. Galeries Lafayette and Showroomprive are also experimenting with the system.
An option that these companies offer their customers when validating their order, “never obligatorily, we ask that there is always a choice, that it is not imposed and that the package ends up in the trash”, underlines Anne-Sophie Raoult. The service, which costs between 1.65 and 1.95 euros per package to the company, can be offered or billed to the buyer opting for this option.
Manufactured in Bulgaria for the flexible models, in Portugal for the rigid model offered in small format since this summer, hipli packages are more environmentally friendly “from the second use: they prevent up to 25 kg of waste and reduce the carbon impact by 83% compared to cardboard ”.
A huge potential market
The Hipli solution currently costs two to ten times more expensive than the traditional packages used by merchants who have subscribed to the offer. “We are working with our mail partners to reduce the cost of returning empty packages”, indicates Anne-Sophie Raoult. Another important step for the small business: the recent signing of a partnership with Colissimo, “which will make it possible to democratize our offer, since they have a sales force for large accounts”.
Currently only available to e-commerce professionals, Hipli could one day be made available to individuals. The company, which now has eight employees, continues to grow in any case. New hires are underway, as are negotiations with new clients. Next goal? The development of a new range of packages.
What to arm even better to conquer an impressive potential market. In France, during the 15 days preceding Christmas, La Poste and its subcontractors deliver 5,000 packages per minute, owes four million Colissimo per day.
