The expansion of the Münchner Bundesstrasse is now really starting
After preparatory work since mid-October, the actual expansion of the Münchner Bundesstrasse between Bichlfeldstrasse (near Billa) and Salzburg-Mitte is now beginning. Starting today, Monday, traffic from Bichlfeldstrasse is to be led past the construction site in a single lane on the south side. The asphalting work for the alternative route along the OMV filling station and the corresponding marking work were completed on Saturday evening.
As early as mid-October, part of the Munich main road in the area of the OMV filling station was closed, a slope in the direction of Hotel Brandstätter was removed, street lighting and the overhead line for the trolleybuses on line 4 have been dismantled, these have been battery-powered in this area since then. This newly created alternative route was paved on Friday and also marked on Saturday night. The traffic signs for the swiveling of the lane have already been put up, presumably from Monday morning the traffic coming from Freilassing WILL be narrowed from the Bichlfeldstraße, up to there the main road was expanded in a second section seven years ago.
The trolleybus stop opposite the former beer fountain has also been moved to the Bichlfeldstrasse intersection. The car traffic in both directions BECOMES single lane on the south side of the construction site, i.e. on the side of the OMV petrol station, from Bichlfeldstraße, so this is always accessible during construction work coming from Freilassing, coming from Salzburg only via the roundabout at the tire John. Even for pedestrians, only one sidewalk on the south side is available during construction work on the north side.
“Actually, we wanted to set up the pivoting at the weekend, but the weather doesn’t quite play along,” said a project manager, saying it would then be more at the beginning of the week. The now paved alternative route enables unhindered work on the north side, where, in addition to the road, all lines for electricity, water, gas and electricity will be re-laid. When.
At least before the corona pandemic, the Munich federal highway from Liefering in the direction of Freilassing was one of the busiest federal highways in the city with up to 25,000 vehicles a day. After numerous lockdowns and the following entry controls to Austria, it has become noticeably quieter, even after the start of construction work and only one lane in the direction of Freilassing from Salzburg-Mitte, the expected traffic jams have not yet materialized.
After the end of the work in the summer of 2023, the Munich main road from Salzburg-Mitte to the Saalbrücke and beyond to Freilassing will be accessible in four lanes. Neighboring residents in Liefering fear even more traffic and even more noise and are still calling for Tempo 40, Provincial Transport Councilor Stefan Schnöll has at least guaranteed them noise barriers, a quiet pavement and two speed traps so that at least Tempo 50 is kept.
The Münchner Bundesstraße has already been expanded twice, in 2007 from the Saalbrücke to Eugen-Müller-Straße and in 2014 on to Bichlfeldstraße. Now the actual bottleneck at the former Lieferinger Spitz (tobacco shop) and thus the last 600 meters are being expanded to include four lanes. The carriageways will be separated by a center island, as was the case with the expanded sections. There are also their own walking and cycling paths. The lines for the trolleybus, natural gas, electricity, water and telecommunications will also be completely renewed. The pure construction costs amount to just under six million euros, the main part of 3.8 million euros is borne by the state, 1.2 million come from the city of Salzburg, the rest from management agencies such as Salzburg AG. A further million euros is estimated for basic redemption and planning.
