Hanover (dpa) – The pianist Igor Levit is to help decide the election of the Federal President in the coming year. He was nominated as a delegate of the Greens of Lower Saxony for the Federal Assembly, as the Greens parliamentary group announced in the Lower Saxony state parliament on Wednesday in Hanover. The election of a total of 73 delegates for the state is therefore planned for the coming week in the state parliament.
In the corona pandemic, the star pianist’s house concerts had received a lot of attention on Twitter. In autumn 2020 he was honored with the Federal Cross of Merit for his social commitment.
The German head of state will be elected in the Federal Assembly on February 13, 2022. Not only politicians are allowed to vote – in the past, for example, the former national soccer coach Joachim Löw did. In the vote next year, for example, national soccer player Leon Goretzka will be there.
