Prague calls on lay volunteers and other health professionals to get involved in helping to fight the pandemic
Today, the management of the capital demands potential candidates from the ranks of the general public, outpatient and practical, but also hospitals in various ways to help congested and other medical and social facilities not only in the metropolis. There is a danger that, especially during the Christmas period, in the second half of December this year, there will no longer be enough staff capacity to take care of patients.
The coronavirus pandemic is not slowing down yet, so hospitals continue to operate at full capacity. In addition to its normal activities, it must also provide care for positive patients. However, due to the long-term burden on health professionals and limited staff capacity, the facilities are beginning to reach their limits.
Therefore, in cooperation with the Czech Red Cross, Prague joined the calls for the general public. At the same time, the municipality directly addresses outpatient and general practitioners to become even more involved in helping congested hospitals, which may soon stop coping with the onslaught of patients.
“The situation is serious. Hospitals will lack 300 paramedics in the second half of December. I therefore called on large facilities associating an outpatient doctor to involve them. Hospitals need help especially in vaccination and testing places and wards where monoclonal personalities are administered. We also asked practitioners and doctors for children and adolescents to be included in emergency medical care and to be vaccinated in their surgeries, ”says the Mayor of the Capital City of Prague, Zdeněk Hřib.
“We all know that the biggest crisis will occur during the Christmas holidays. The person who would like to help does not necessarily have to be a paramedic, among other things thanks to the basic nursing courses organized for volunteers by the Czech Red Cross. In hospital wards, course graduates can do a lot of work and relieve overworked nurses. I would like to ask the capital that anyone who can, consider engaging in helping congested health care. We are going through a test of solidarity. I firmly believe that we will succeed in it as a company, “says Milena John, a councilor for healthcare.
It is volunteering for the general public that includes the CRC in particular. Due to the serious situation, he is currently preparing for the darkest scenarios for the further development of the pandemic and is now opening other one-day courses for the public. It is possible to acquire nursing skills that can be used at home to care for a loved one, in hospitals or in various social facilities. The courses take place not only in Prague but also in other Czech cities and are currently free.
