Can the predominance of Prague roll Central Bohemian transport? They say it’s not a threat
Former governor Jaroslava Pokorná Jermanová (YES) raised this concern from the opposition benches at a meeting of the regional council some time ago. She pointed out that, according to her information, the merger of organizations in charge of managing public transport in the capital and its surroundings is planned – with the establishment of a joint joint-stock company, where Prague will have 51 percent of shares. The ex-governor is afraid that the metropolis could enforce its own if the interests of the capital and the Central Bohemia come into conflict. However, Deník, the regional councilor for public transport, Petr Borecký (STAN), assured that he would not assert his superiority.
Prague and its surroundings as a whole
Deník asked Borecký how the negotiations on the planned merger of the Prague organization Ropid, which means the Regional Organizer of PID, and the Integrated Transport of the Central Bohemian Region or IDSK, had progressed. The details have already been clarified if a new memorandum of co-operation between the representatives of the municipality and the governor is about to be signed on 17 December – with public transport becoming one of the key areas in which both parties will apply a common approach?

The merger of IDSK with Ropid is indeed being prepared. A joint-stock company should be established, in which Prague will have 51 percent and the Central Bohemian Region 49. According to Borecký, however, there is no reason to worry: rules of mutual relations will be set to prevent one party from enforcing a decision against the other’s will. . To some extent this can be likened to the application of the gold stock mechanism, the holder has a veto.
In connection with the intention to merge the Central Bohemian councilors of both organizations, it does not make sense for one comprehensive system – it works like PIP, formerly called Prague Integrated Transport – to have two organizers who try to cooperate with each other, but each actually in line and colleagues working they have every other manager for planning the same line. And everyone works differently: so a new headquarters is being sought. “Cooperation with the management of Prague is good; it makes sense to create one organizer, “said the councilor. However, it cannot be a contributory organization because it cannot have two founders. The model of the successor organization in the form of a business company is therefore being prepared.
Wages in Central Bohemia rose more slowly than in Prague and throughout the country
According to Borecký, the distribution of shares in 51:49 percent of the joint-stock company is not a concern. He emphasizes that guarantees are provided by statutes containing blocking mechanisms. “It shall ensure that one party does not roll the other on the board of directors or supervisory board; So I can dispel Mrs. Jerman’s concerns, “said the councilor. However, the mentioned blocking mechanisms are also said to be important for the representatives of Prague: the capital needs the certainty that Central Bohemia, a region with a different character than the metropolis, will not bring their interests to the activities of the successor organization.
Other regions will not join
Although PID has been affecting Podřipsko for a long time and the integration of other cross-border lines extending into other regions is deepening, their accession to the planned model of cooperation in the new “PID company” is not expected. There are no such close ties as between Prague and Central Bohemia in the metropolitan area, so the mutual partnership will continue. This will be reflected not only in the joint planning of lines and their connections, but in the future, for example, the expansion of the PID check-in system beyond the borders of the region is also planned.
