Thessaloniki: The death of a 25-year-old at a child rehabilitation center from a cerebral hemorrhage
Cerebral hemorrhage and myocardial ischemia are attributed to the death of the 25-year-old patient in the Department of Recovery and Rehabilitation of Children with Disabilities in Thessaloniki “O Agios Dimitrios”.
This appears, according to information, from the findings of the autopsy-necropsy performed by a medical examiner, while the results of the toxicological examinations are pending. According to the same information, the 25-year-old does not seem to have a history of coronary heart disease and the ischemic attack is said to have been caused by a stressful event which he experienced.
So far, what has been officially announced by the president of the Social Welfare Center of the Region of Central Macedonia (KKPKKM), Vasiliki Nakou, is that the unfortunate guest was beaten and for this reason he was admitted (on 28/11) to the “Papanikolaou” Hospital in Thessaloniki. but where it ended up a few hours later.
Since then, a sworn administrative examination is underway to clarify the case, while the president of the KKPKM filed an indictment in the university report with the Thessaloniki Prosecutor’s Office in order, as he stated, “to investigate whether acts that constitute criminal offenses were committed.” “Personally, I am determined to take the case to the end,” she added.
Information states that the indictment describes an incident of violence against the 25-year-old by another person being treated and negligent behavior of an employee in relation to this incident.
The same time, Deputy Minister of Labor Domna Michailidou also filed a lawsuit against everyone responsible for the same incident, calling for the full elucidation of the circumstances of death. The lawsuit was filed with the prosecutor of the Supreme Court, Vassilis Pliotas.
However, this is not the first time that this Foundation is in the center of (negative) publicity. In April 2018, the three-member Criminal Court of Thessaloniki tried a case of abuse against three patients that had been revealed almost four years earlier, with accused, then, employees of the Structure.
In this case, the court punished an employee as a natural perpetrator (he was accused of “hitting with an unknown object the patients who due to their mental disability were unable to resist”), as well as a hospital and an executive (then deputy head of care) duty. The sentences were 4 years and 1 year, with suspension, respectively. It is characteristic that the prosecutor of the headquarters, evaluating all the evidence, had commented on her purchase: “The whole operation of the Foundation makes an alginate impression”.
