Computer Exam | For the first time in Portugal, more electric vehicles were sold than diesel vehicles
For the first time, more 100% electric vehicles were sold (18.1%), in the category of passenger cars, than vehicles with diesel engines (17.7%), last November, in Portugal.
According to the UVE (Association of Electric Vehicle Users), the value of sales of electric vehicles (BEV- the electric battery + PHEV- hybrid) reached a new high, with 3618 vehicles sold, of which 2165 were 100% electric vehicles and 1453 plug-in were hybrid vehicles. In all, until November, 26 340 electric vehicles had been sold, approaching the goal of 30,000 electric vehicles sold in a year that, if achieved, will be the highest value ever. As a result, its market share surpassed 30% for the first time, standing at 31.4%, double that of the first month of the year (14.1%).
However, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles have seen a slowdown in demand due to the growing supply of 100% electric vehicles that need the speed and fast charging speed that consumers are looking for, made possible by the increased power of older chargers and the expansion of the market. National Electric Vehicle Charging Network – which already has 1,000 fast, super-fast and ultra-fast charging stations and more than 6,000 normal charging stations.
With regard to the annual market share for the sale of electric vehicles, this is close to 20%, which means that in every five cars sold in Portugal, one of them is electric. In monthly terms, almost one in three cars sold are electric.
With these numbers, it is expected that the monthly sales value of electric vehicles will rise to three thousand units in the last quarter of the year. For now, more than 120 models of 100% electric vehicles of various brands are available that accelerate the demand for this type of vehicle. Although the demand for plug-in hybrids is decreasing, these vehicles are usually the first to be chosen by consumers, to start 100% electric mobility.
