Covid in Prague and Central Bohemia: quarantined children and angry school principals
Prague also records similar figures, although hygienists have refrained from publishing summary figures here. They are said to be giving energy for tracing and other coronavirus pandemic-related tasks.
The totals have been similar in recent weeks in Prague and Central Bohemia, although the data “spill over” between individual schools and sometimes between districts.
The words of the hygienists are also confirmed by the experience of the cities. “For example, the director of the 3rd primary school, Jan Křikava, told me that on Thursday they had four classes in quarantine, on Friday one started, another goes to school on Monday and the other two start on Tuesday. However, everything could have changed during Friday, “said Kateřina Hradilová, a spokeswoman for Rakovnik City Hall.
Confusion and unpopular measures
The headmaster of the largest school in Rakovník does not like the current measures. “The situation is not worth it. You live from day to day, you don’t know if the children will come or not. You turn on the computer and you don’t know if the students will sit down next to it. Perhaps these nonsensical measures will soon end, because this has nothing to do with education, “complained Jan Křikava.
They also point out the confusion in Benešov. “There are no comprehensive reports from us about hygiene. There is a huge chaos in the fact that we do not even know how many pupils or classes are in quarantine, “said Ivana Kárová, head of the Department of Education, Youth and Sports at the Benešov Municipal Office.
She described the situation by saying that change is catching up with change, and that information is constantly intertwined with closed and reopened classes. “It simply came to our notice then. The school principals themselves are already desperate. Hygiene cannot be traced, and school principals themselves help it with that. It’s just chaos, “she said.
Covid in hundreds of schools
According to the latest available data for the last week in November, coronavirus prevalence was recorded in a total of 375 facilities in Central Bohemia. Most in the Mělník region (49, then in the Benešov region (44) and the Kladno region (41).
Our government has repealed the decree on compulsory vaccination over 60 years, said Jurečka
On the contrary, not a single school in Prague should be closed at this time. In the capital, according to available data, covid affects less than 200 schools every week. Most of them have long been in the district of Prague 4, which, in addition to the fourth city district, also includes Prague 11 or Prague 12.
The last time there were 334 positive schoolchildren in the metropolis, as shown by the results of area PCR testing at the turn of November and December. Positive pupils and students in Central Bohemian schools were counted by hygienists in 1237. Most in Kutná Hora (177), Nymburk (167) and Příbram (132). There were 153 educators with covid in the whole region.
No teachers
“The situation is difficult, but we have it under control. Paradoxically, we are more concerned than the morbidity and quarantine of teachers than the morbidity of children. In some schools, it is now on the edge of the staff, “described the Deputy Mayor of Kutná Hora Vít Šnajdr.
The situation is serious at the elementary school in Městec Králové. Director Petr Novák therefore announced a director’s leave for the first three days of December, which is largely motivated by a lack of staff. “Some are quarantined at home, others have contracted other diseases. It has been very difficult to manage the staffing of the teaching lately. And unfortunately, I don’t think that will change for the better in the near future, “admitted director Novák.
On the contrary, according to their management, they get to the primary school in Králové Dvůr. “When it comes to teaching, we have to combine full-time and distance forms, which is very challenging for us. We are big schools, helped by a fleet of thirty assistants. And when our teacher is quarantined, you can at least teach through him. That helps us tremendously. We have been going full throttle in recent weeks and we are glad that we are doing so well. But I believe that we went through the worst, because the development is slowly improving, “said Evžen Krob, director of the Jungmannova and Počaply primary schools.
They are also optimistic at one of the primary schools in Cologne. “Positive children appear on an ongoing basis, we continuously have one or two classes in quarantine, but we manage. It’s still relatively good for the situation. We communicate regularly with hygiene, excellent cooperation, it helps us a lot, I really appreciate their work, “said the director of the 7th Kolín Primary School, Renata Jeřábková.

Due to the situation, some schools are considering extending the Christmas holidays. Especially after this option was rejected by the incumbent government. “The principals and the management of the education department are discussing a possible director’s leave before the Christmas holidays. It has already been decided at the 3rd and 9th primary schools, “said Šárka Charousková, a spokeswoman for the Boleslav municipality.
