Davis Cup: Belgium to play World Group play-off in Finland in March
Johan Van Herck’s players will face Emil Ruusuvuori (ATP 95), Otto Virtanen (ATP 389) and others Harri Heliovaara (ATP 54 in doubles) and Henri Kontinen (ATP 63 in doubles) on March 4 and 5, 2022 in Finland. Belgium returned to the world group thanks to their 2-3 victory over Bolivia on September 20 in Asuncion (Paraguay), not without being triggered 2-0. Finland beat India 3-1 at Espoo (hard court) to join the world group.
Twelve countries will qualify via a play-off played according to the historic Davis Cup format (five matches including a double in one of the countries) except that the matches will be played in two winning sets.
The final phase of the 2022 edition will bring together 16 nations on a site to be defined.
Four countries have qualified directly for the 2022 finals: this year’s finalists, Russia and Croatia, as well as two guests announced on Sunday: Great Britain and Serbia.
