the Covid-19 continue to gain ground. The fifth wave of the epidemic is getting bigger in the North – Pas-de-Calais, to the point that the Lille University Hospital has reactivated its white plan. What is the current health situation and which are the most suitable municipalities in the region? We take stock.
An incidence almost as high as the third wave
Currently, it is the circulation of the virus that is of concern. The incidence rate continues its inexorable rise.
In the North, on account, at 1uh December 2021, 469 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, a figure that has more than doubled in two weeks. And above all, an incidence rate never seen since last march, while we were undergoing the third epidemic wave.
In the Pas de Calais, the incidence has almost tripled in the last two weeks, estimated at 343 cases per 100,000 inhabitants to 1uh December 2021.
Lille, the most affected metropolis in France
The Lille metropolis, with an incidence rate of 584, is the most affected of the 22 French metropolises.
In the North, many municipalities have an incidence rate of between 500 and 1,000 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. This is the case for a large part of the MEL therefore, but also for municipalities borders of Belgium come Steenvoorde and Bailleul. Several communes of Avesnois are also affected by large clusters, have an incidence greater than 1000.
In Pas-de-Calais, the circulation of the virus is more sparse, concentrated around from Arras and Saint-Omer, and in the Ternois.
More and more hospitalized patients
In hospitals, the situation is also getting worse. In the North, on 413 Covid patients hospitalized at 1uh December, a whole more than two weeks ago. 94 of them are in intensive care.
In Pas-de-Calais, these are 149 patients who were hospitalized for Covid, including 24 in intensive care, on the same date.
A less deadly fifth wave
Note, however, that if the incidence of the virus is equivalent to that of March, the number of hospitalized patients is significantly lower. Thus, at the end of March, when the North posted an incidence of 477, on Thus, more than 1300 patients admitted to hospital, including 274 in intensive care.
Also note a much lower death. At the end of March, in the middle of the third wave in Hauts-de-France, with a death rate of 4 per 100,000 inhabitants in one week, while at the end of November, this rate of 0.6.
Proof of the effectiveness of vaccination to prevent severe forms? In Hauts-de-France, at the end of November, 88% of the population over 12 years of age was fully immunized.
It remains now to take up the challenge of the vaccine booster. For now, only 14% of those over 12 received a new dose in Hauts-de-France.
