Underground disco party ‘From Italo to Disco’ rises in new … (Antwerp)
From Italo to Disco (FITD), the party concept that originated in the defunct party location Bagger on the Eilandje, is back. Initiator Sven Mes joins forces with culture house De Studio to breathe new life into his popular fantasy. From now on, the underground disco party will continue in the form of a performance in the Sint-Joriskerk with an afterparty in De Studio (as soon as the corona can do it again).

FITD was a success from the start and also downstairs Bagger disappeared, FITD parties kept popping up in Antwerp for which enthusiasts queued in rows. The last stop was Bar Rodin in the Long New Times where the disco party took place several times. Now that this has also come to an end, founder Sven Mes has entered into a partnership with culture house De Studio.
“We are adding an ‘all other funny’ section to the concept. You can see that as a combination of live electronics and a good old part afterwards. It will all be that little bit more, both in terms of programming and in terms of look & feel.”
First appointment is on December 10. “The performance will take place in the Sint-Joriskerk, which, like De Studio, is located on the Mechelseplein,” says Sven. Dancing would continue in De Studio, but initially from the tightened corona, that last part will be deleted. But canceling everything, Sven doesn’t want to hear about that. “We don’t want to come to a complete standstill. Not only us, organizers, but also the public to be able to keep going to music performances. We therefore ask: stay amazed, keep going to performances. Especially in these difficult times,” says Sven. Tickets are not yet available.
During this first church edition of FITD, two artists will make their appearance. At 8 pm Miaux plays, the alter ego of Mia Prce who was born in Sarajevo and lives in Antwerp. “She is one of the protagonists in our thriving electronica scene.” Afterwards it’s up to Peaking Lights, a psych-pop duo from San Francisco.
The afterparty is cancelled, but a dash of music and a drink in the foyer of De Studio: it’s okay. “The rules apply there that apply everywhere in the catering industry.”
