Do Lyon restaurants inflate their prices during the Festival of Lights?

Nearly a million people were waiting for this edition of the Festival of Lights, so many mouths to feed. An event which gives the opportunity to taste Lyon specialties…. But do restaurateurs take the opportunity to inflate their prices?
Whether it’s Place Bellecour, in old Lyon, or anywhere else in the city, there is no shortage of restaurants. From Lyonnais corks to Lyonnais corks, through the more classic bistros, each one offers its own specialties. For them, the Festival of Lights represents a great source of work and income, and some make a special arrangement.

For La Cocagne, a restaurant in the 3rd arrondissement of Lyon, the menu tends to be changed very regularly. “We change our menu every two days or so. But for the Festival of Lights, we offered a little more lyonnaiseries to accentuate the local side”, explains Sylvain Armand, manager of the restaurant. This kind of practice is common in most restaurants. Some even go further by offering a unique menu, such as the restaurant “Chez Grand-Mère” in Old Lyon. “On Saturdays, people eat quickly and are quite numerous, so I set up a single menu that was easy to send. For example I removed the quenelle which takes more than 30 minutes to cook, says Gérard Gignaux, chef of the restaurant. The prices therefore only change on Saturdays in view of the single menu. The wine list, however, has not changed “.
