The terraces on Budějovická will open to the public before Christmas, councilors promised
The only open corridor from the metro is almost full of people at peak times, but that should change after the opening of the second exit from the metro in mid-December. “We assume that if all goes well, the building approval itself will take place during January. Assuming that the construction department gives preliminary statements, the terraces, including passages to the metro, could be opened as early as December, “promised Jan Chabr, councilor for property (TOP 09).
Work began this spring. Upstairs on the terrace, workers are left to finish the insulation at its edges. “We dealt with a more complicated detail at the Česká spořitelna building. This is associated with follow-up work with the interconnection of insulation, “described the reasons for the delay David Božovský, CEO of the company BDS Benešov, which performs the work. However, the original completion date was in the summer of 2020.

At the second exit from the metro, the last details, such as a ticket machine or fire detectors, need to be installed. “In the coming days, we will remove the protective cover on the escalators, then we will get to the final cleaning phase,” Božovský explained. The construction will require 34.2 million crowns, according to Chabr, the original budget has been met.
In the second phase, next year there will also be minor modifications to the square below the footbridge. The city would also like to remove the unsightly signs hanging on the railings of the footbridges and on the sides of the terraces. “We can only remove them on the property of the municipality and the city district. It will depend on negotiations with the owners, we are no longer in the conservation area here and therefore it is not subject to a generally binding decree dealing with advertising tarpaulins, “said Chabr.

In the future, the entire territory of Budějovická is also to be transformed, and the city is preparing a territorial study for its overall revitalization. It is planned mainly for landscaping, the adjacent courtyard is also to be improved, the implementation is planned for 2025.
The terrace was built in 1977, never repaired and its condition gradually deteriorated. The problem in the past was that the historic dilapidated building did not belong to anyone – only in 2013 did an official from Prague 4 decide that it belonged to the city. It has been in a state of disrepair since 2010, originally politicians pushed for its demolition, and finally, after protracted negotiations with the owners of parts of the area, Česká spořitelna, the DBK shopping center and the stall operators under the terrace, managed to push through the reconstruction. The seemingly unsolvable problem in Prague also became a hot topic of the pre-election struggle in 2018.
