Podcast: In the next 10 years, Prague will need up to 186 new trams, says Deputy Scheinherr
The introduction of tolls in Prague must be taken into account. Trams will leave for the upper part of Wenceslas Square in 2025.
The guest of the new part of the Podcast Zdopravy.cz podcast is the Deputy Mayor of the Capital City of Prague to recommend Adam Scheinherr for transport. Moderator Ondřej Kubala and Adam Scheinherr discussed in detail road transport, public transport, planned investments and relations between cyclists and drivers.
“Drivers criticize the condition of communications, then they criticize when we fix it. Why did Prague seem impassable? Our number of cars increased by 2-5 percent. Every percentage is known in the streets, “ says Adam Scheinherr in the podcast, noting that the number of cars in the capital increased during the pandemic.
According to Scheinherr, the future of Prague’s public transport is electricity. By 2030, the capital wants to have about a 40 percent share of electricity buses, and construction of new tram lines is planned.
“We want to start building the Dvorecký bridge next year, which is done in two to three years. You will take the tram around Wenceslas Square in 2025, “ says Scheinherr, adding that competition for new trams will begin soon. “The outlook that Prague will need with the development of new tram lines is up to 186 new trams. A smaller number will compete, only a few tens with a possible option, except for this number, it is not yet precisely determined. We have to announce this competition next year in order to be able to exhaust which we will have a designated. “
Why does Prague need so many new trams? How much does Prague transport cost per year? When hydrogen buses start testing in Prague? Do I continue to expect Prague that some bus lines will be provided by private carriers that perform the dominant transport company? Why is the construction of metro D currently complicated by a single citizen? In addition to metro D, when will driverless operation be fully automated on metro line C? Does the deputy, in cooperation with the Central Bohemian Region, want to compete with the carrier for the train lines operated by ČD today? Will you connect with ROPID and IDSK? What are the biggest investments in the city’s road network in the coming years? What is the state of planning the continuation of the city ring road? And why is the discussion between cyclists and car drivers sometimes hysterical, as our host says?
We’ve opened these and other questions in a new episode of the podcast. At the end of the interview, Adam Scheinherr also answers questions from readers of the daily Zdopravy.cz. And so you will find out whether it is more inclined to the cable car or tram when connecting Prague 6 with Bohnice, what is the situation with the Břevnov and Radlická radials or with the extension of the South Junction.
