There will be no New Year’s fireworks in Prague. Other cities are already canceling the celebrations. OVERVIEW
Same scenario as last year. First canceled Christmas markets, now also New Year’s fireworks. The capital’s management is reacting to the worsening epidemic situation and is canceling the traditional New Year’s fireworks. In some cities, however, they still believe that they can organize New Year’s celebrations even during strict measures.
Prague
In the past, the city has traditionally welcomed the new year with fireworks, which has replaced the projection on buildings since January 1, 2020. But this variant is out of the question this year as well. “We did not plan any fireworks this year either, but we were thinking about alternative ways to welcome the new year. We were waiting for the epidemic situation and the anti-epidemic situation to develop. m Prague Vít Hofman.
Ostrava
The statutory city of Ostrava leaves the organization of New Year’s celebrations to individual districts. The tradition is fireworks in the Ostrava South district, but on January 1, 2022, the Moravian-Silesian metropolis will be without it. “We do not expect the situation to calm down and we were able to organize the event. Ten thousand people meet there regularly, so we could not guarantee safety. But I am looking for a meaningful date for the fireworks over the next year,” spokeswoman Gabriela Gödelová explained.
Brno
New Year’s celebrations in the form of fireworks have not taken place in Brno since 2016, and according to city spokesman Filip Poňuchálek, the city is not planning fireworks this year either.
Pilsen
In Pilsen, the Pilsen 3 city district regularly organizes New Year’s fireworks for families with children, however, a more sustainable alternative is planned this year. “This year, we decided for a light installation on the surface of the Borská dam, which is more environmentally friendly. It will be a four-meter tree, which we will ceremoniously light on Wednesday, December 1,” said spokeswoman Alena Marešová.
Olomouc
In Olomouc, it was customary to hold New Year’s fireworks on the Upper Square. It was canceled last year due to the epidemic situation, and this year it is on the same path. “It has not yet been decided at this time. But since the fireworks organization was in charge of the organizer of the Christmas markets, we have no certainty after their cancellation,” said city spokeswoman Radka Štědrá.
Hradec Králové
Before the pandemic, they celebrated the celebrations in Hradec Králové magnificently. For example, in 2019, lentil soup, punch or tea were distributed in front of the fireworks in the Great Square, and a compilation of important events from the past year was also shown. This year, however, the event is canceled just like last year. “The celebration of the new year is related to long-term preparation, so we rejected it due to the epidemic situation. But if the situation reverses, it is not without a chance,” said the head of the mayor’s office, Petr Vinklář.
Zlín
In Zlín, they will tolerate the celebrations of the arrival of the year and they want to adjust their desire for this year’s canceled fireworks in 2022. “We have the fireworks planned. “Said the city’s spokesman Tomáš Melzer.
Jihlava
The bright skies will not experience the second year of the series in Jihlava either, even though they had big plans with the neo-Slavs at the beginning of November. “We were preparing videomapping for the New Year, but more people came than is currently allowed. So we decided to cancel the event before the government banned the Christmas markets,” said city spokesman Radovan Danek.
Příbram
In Příbram, fireworks are held only as part of the Čertovský Novák event, which was canceled this year as well as the entire event due to the worsened epidemic situation.
