Decision between DFB and player adviser
Frankfurt / Main (dpa) – The Higher Regional Court of Frankfurt / Main will make a decision this Tuesday in the year-long legal dispute between the German Football Association and the player advisory agency Rogon.
Their managing director Roger Wittmann does not want to accept that the agents have to submit to the DFB regulations. The German football player mediators association stands “absolutely” behind the Klagewaden member.
“Do players ‘agents have to submit to the sports jurisdiction of the DFB and the regulations for players’ agents – without being and not being able to become a member of the association as a player’s agent?” Said DFVV managing director Philipp Wehler of the German press agency. “If we cannot have a say, then we cannot be burdened with any obligations. The OLG has already indicated at the hearing that it is critical of this issue.”
Do player agents have to register with the DFB?
The OLG wants to announce its decision in the appeal process, which is observed with eagle eyes in the professional industry, at 9.30 a.m. Wittmann and his agency based in Frankenthal have clients such as Julian Draxler, Roberto Firmino, Marcel Sabitzer, Thilo Kehrer, Lukas Nmecha and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting. The 61-year-old is considered to be one of the most important players’ agents in this country. The Bundesliga spent almost 200 million euros on agents in 2019/2020.
In the dispute with the DFB about the consultant regulations introduced in 2015, the main focus is on the obligation to register as a player’s consultant with the DFB and thus to submit to the association. The Rogon party relies on the principle of free competition and on the fact that its industry is purely economic. She sees the whole thing as an antitrust dispute.
The OLG should also clarify whether commissions may be paid for underage footballers. The Boy Scouts all over the world are known to have long been looking for talents who are much younger than 18 die. When you reach the age of 16 you can play in the Bundesliga. Exceptional kickers like Florian Wirtz (Bayer Leverkusen) and Jamal Musiala (FC Bayern Munich) are national players at the age of 18.
