Listen to Adam Bejšovec’s report on the introduction of electric buses in Prague’s public transport
Electric buses will run on two established lines 154 and 213. “Line 154 runs from Strašnická, where a charging stop from the tram network was built. Line 213 runs from the Želivského metro station, where a charging station has also been built, ”explains Jan Šurovský, technical director of surface vehicles.
They usually have a range of about a hundred kilometers, but the traffic itself exceeds it. “This electric bus can be recharged from the infrastructure that is possible for trams and trolleybuses. This is an advantage, because it prolongs the range. And then overnight at the bus stops, the turntables slowly recharge, “he described President of the Škoda Transportation Group Petr Brzezina.
Back to the Future
All cars are fully equipped and low-floor. And with zero emissions, that’s why Prague mainly cared about them.
“It’s not just a climate commitment. It is an overall increase in the level of the environment, a reduction in noise and emissions. We are actually going back fifty years, when the last trolleybuses disappeared from the streets of Prague, that is, let’s say buses in electric traction. I think it was a bad step, “explained Adam Scheinherr, Deputy Minister for Transport from the Prague Sobě group.
So far, the transport company will receive a total of 14 purely electric buses. Passengers can look forward to them significantly in mid-January next year.
