Hanover (dpa / lni) – The state government, representatives of the industry and trade unionists want to take stock of their talks on the upheaval in the Lower Saxony car industry on Wednesday (1 p.m.). Prime Minister Stephan Weil (SPD) and Economics Minister Bernd Althusmann (CDU) will be providing information on the results together with the employers’ association Niedersachsenmetall, IG Metall and the participants from Volkswagen and Continental.
During the coordination process, which will last up to three years, priorities were determined in several working groups. It covered topics such as logistics, charging infrastructure, sales and data protection. In May 2019, the discussions on the “Automotive Industry Strategy Dialog” began.
In Lower Saxony, the industry is not only part of a central branch of the economy because of the heavyweights VW and Conti, which are based here, but also because of the many suppliers. The change to alternative drives and more and more networking in the car poses problems for smaller companies in particular when it comes to financing and further training.
