Kapo Zurich urges cyclists to be visible – Polizei.news
During this time of year, various factors can lead to slippery roads and good visibility is very important for cyclists.
A few measures can prevent accidents:
Make your bike fit!
Before every trip, make sure you have good tires with sufficient tire pressure and working brakes.
Make yourself visible!
Good visibility makes a significant contribution to a safe journey, even in daylight, because other road users perceive you so much better. Clothing with flashy colors and reflectors contribute to good visibility. Make sure that the reflectors on the front and back of the bike are clean and undamaged. Also turn on the lights during the day.
Protect yourself!
Although bike helmets are not compulsory for all bikes, we recommend wearing a helmet, as this often prevents serious head injuries. In order to perform its protective function, the helmet has to fit snugly without squeezing or wobbling.
Pay attention to the regulations!
Dangerous situations arise again and again, or traffic accidents occur because right of way, traffic lights and traffic signs are not observed. In addition, inattentiveness and distraction often lead to traffic accidents, even on a two-wheeler. Only those who are attentive are safe on the road. Mutual respect between all traffic partners and the note of the traffic rules contribute immensely to traffic safety.
Be careful with the e-bike!
Remember, an e-bike is heavier, faster and therefore more difficult to steer than a “normal” bike. The higher speed and the greater weight lead to a significantly faster stopping and braking distance.
