Shoe boxes will help poor children. Prague police officers also joined
Tens of thousands of people, over 70 schools and 52 companies pack boxes and prepare Christmas presents for poor children. Collection points are at municipal offices, cafes, libraries, patisseries, beauty salons and construction companies. This year, the Box of Shoes collection will also be supported by Prague police officers.
“Every year, Prague police officers organize many collections themselves and try to help sick and abandoned children. This year, we have decided to support this traditional Christmas box collection in addition to our ongoing charitable activities. We hope that the gifts from our police officers make many children happy, “said police spokeswoman Eva Kropáčová.
There are sixteen collection points in the metropolis, among others in the Datart store, in the branch of the municipal library in Chodov or in the parish congregations of the CCE.
The principle of the collection is to wrap useful and new gifts in a shoe box and to determine how old the box is intended for the old child. Then deliver it to the collection point. If the donor does not dare to fill and pack the box himself, he can contribute to it online on the collection page www.krabiceodbot.cz.
“You can’t recognize a poor child today by the fact that he wears badly dressed clothes, because you can find nice clothes even in second-hand clothes. Poverty is often hidden and difficult to see at first glance, “explains Ivo Mareš, CCE’s Diaconia spokesman. “Today, I know child poverty in such a way that children do not have enough supplies for school, do not attend other hobby groups, do not go to lunch, have problems with aggression and also that they are not looking forward to Christmas at all,” Mareš added.
