Mochov (near Prague) – The D11 motorway is passable again after the demolition of the bridge near Mochov near Prague. The highway was closed for over 16 hours, and the finishing work took longer than expected. The deadline started on Saturday night and was scheduled to end today at 10:00. The section between exit 8 Jirny and exit 18 Bříství was closed. The traffic was then conducted in one lane in the direction of Prague and in one lane in the direction of Hradec Králové. The direction to Prague was completely cleared at 16:00, in the direction to Hradec Králové at 18:30, Petra Kučerová, a spokeswoman for the Central Bohemian Regional Administration and Road Maintenance, told ČTK.
The demolition of the bridge began on Saturday at 20:00, a large part of it had already been dismantled by midnight, and the work continued according to schedule. In the morning, the debris removal had to be completed, followed by the final cleaning of the road and the fitting of barriers to the motorway. It was the cleaning of the rubble that took longer than expected. The full passage of the motorway in the direction of Prague was also delayed by an hour. “The contractor Hochtief CZ underestimated the time-consuming finishing work,” added Kučerová.
The road II / 245, which belongs to the Central Bohemian Region, led along the demolished bridge. It was closed on November 11 and preparatory work on it began a few days ago. “The bridge from 1984 will replace the new bridge, which we will start building at the beginning of the new construction season, ie in the spring of 2022,” said Kučerová. The new bridge will cost about 50 million crowns without VAT. According to the tender, its service life should be 100 years and it should also enable the future extension of the motorway by two lanes.
Due to the demolition of another bridge near Prague, the D11 motorway was also closed at the end of July, also from Saturday evening, and was to open on Sunday. It also opened late with the original plans, as the demolition of the bridge complicated a large amount of reinforcement not included in the documentation. In one direction, the highway opened on Monday and was not fully passable until Tuesday. The investor who had the bridge demolished was the Technical Road Administration in Prague in July.
