Rouen beats Salzburg in the round of 16 first leg of the Champions League
Rouen beat the Austrians of Red Bull Salzburg 3-0 (0-0, 1-0, 2-0) in the round of 16 first leg of the Champions League, sold out Wednesday evening (3,279 spectators) in their ice rink Nathalie Péchalat. The two teams will meet next Wednesday, November 24 in Austria.
In November 2018, Salzburg had finished Rouen at the same stage of the competition (3-3 in Normandy, 5-1 on the return). Victim of several broken fingers on October 1, defender Chakiachvili was back on the ice on Wednesday.
Rouen opened the scoring with his Canadian David Gilbert (assistant Andrew Johnston and Vincent Nesea) after 36 minutes of play. With his Latvian Rolands Vigners (assistant Marc-André Dorion), the Dragons doubled the bet after in the 52nd. And Vigners, this time without assistance, was quick to worsen the score (55th).
Both teams had excellent goalkeepers, Rouen Slovenian Matija Pintaric and Salzburg Finn Atte Tolvanen. They committed few faults, the first exclusion (simultaneously for Rouennais Florian Chakiachvili and Austrian Peter Schneider) occurring after 34 minutes, each team having only two exclusions.
