Berlin: Oltmann elected district mayor of Tempelhof-Schöneberg
The Green politician Jörn Oltmann has been elected as the new district mayor of Tempelhof-Schöneberg. This is the first time the party has occupied this office in the Berlin district. The District Assembly (BVV) elected Oltmann in its second session since the election on Wednesday evening.
Previously, Oltmann was city councilor for urban development and construction, now he is responsible for finances, personnel and economic development in the district.
The parliamentary groups of the Greens and the SPD had previously signed a so-called counting community agreement for BVV Tempelhof-Schöneberg.
In addition, the five other members of the district office were elected.
The SPD politician Angelika Schöttler will be Oltmann’s deputy, and she will also be responsible for the urban development and facility management departments. Under Oliver Schworck, the SPD will also head the health department and the youth division.
With Saskia Ellenbeck, the Greens also take over the chairmanship of the Public Order Office and the Roads and Green Space Office. City councilor for social affairs and citizen services will be Matthias Steuckardt (CDU), his party colleague Tobias Dollase will lead the school and sports department.
In the election for the district assembly, the Greens received the most votes with 23.6 percent, just ahead of the SPD with 23.5 percent. Both have 15 seats in BVV. The CDU was the third strongest force with 20.8 percent. The left follows in fourth place with 8.8 percent, ahead of the FDP (7.0 percent) and the AfD (5.8 percent).
