History – Berlin – three students win first prizes in history competition – knowledge
Berlin (dpa / lnw) – Three students from North Rhine-Westphalia have won a first prize in the Federal President’s history competition. Frank-Walter Steinmeier will award the five first prize winners on Tuesday at Bellevue Palace in Berlin. According to the Körber Foundation, the winners include Simon Große-Bley and Malin Käter from Paderborn and Hannah Reehuis from Ochtrup (Steinfurt district). You will receive 2500 euros each for your work.
Große-Bley and Käter from grade 12 researched the escape of the Afghan national soccer team to Paderborn in the early 1980s. In the process, both of them shed light on how independent sport was from politics in this case – and how independent sport can be at all. Reehuis (10th grade) deals with the history of her sports club, the Ochtrup tennis club. The high school student shed light on the development of tennis in Germany from a privilege to a popular sport.
A total of five first prizes will be awarded at the 27th history competition. Four second prizes (1,500 euros) and seven third prizes (750 euros) went to NRW. These include students from Bochum, Siegburg, Münster, Rheine, Leverkusen, Schleiden and Ahlen.
