Robots with food on the sidewalk. Couriers of import services can replace robotic vehicles in Prague iROZHLAS
An existing robotic project is being created in the basement of the Holešovice factory for 3D printers. The creators are completing “automatic trolleys”. As early as 2022, as the designers promise, their special machines should appear on the Prague sidewalks. The main advantage of the whole concept should be low costs – robotic carts should cost less than one monthly salary of a courier who delivers food on a scooter or car. The question is how the machines can cope with pedestrians.

“The movement of robots on the sidewalk is not strictly forbidden in our country,” describes Jan Sedláček, one of the developers of the Vanilla Robotics start-up, stating that the legislation in neighboring Germany is already ready for this circumstance.

According to Sedláček, in addition to pedestrians, the sidewalk in the neighboring state can be used up to a total weight of 10 kilograms. The speed of their movement must correspond to walking.
“I don’t know yet that anyone with delivery robots would go there in normal use,” admits Sedláček, adding that their Vanilla Robotics plans to start commercial operations in Prague as early as 2022.
Following the famous route
The four-wheeled delivery platform with a 1kWh battery should have both axles steerable for better maneuverability, only the front one will be driven. The machine will move autonomously, but only along a known route.
