Coming from Leeds, the Yard Act tornado will blow over the Toulouse Metronum
Originally from Leeds, the Yard Act scoundrels tumble into the Metronum on Friday, November 19: a sound explosion could well take the Borderouge district.
Revealed by three incendiary singles (“The Trapper’s Pelts”, “Fixer Upper” and “Peanuts”) and barely more gigs, Yard Act immediately got a huge buzz. Promoted by the specialized press across the Channel, by Hervé Bordier, head of the Metronum totally committed to their cause and by… Sir Elton John (“I wonder how they do it”, he wondered recently) as the leaders of ‘a new wave of edgy guitar bands, from Idles to Shame to Fontaines DC, the four lads keep their feet on the ground: “When you come from the North of England, nobody allows you to take a big head , tempers James Smith, singer and main composer of the group. We all played together at one time or another, we are not going to bring it back because three newspapers praise us! Ryan (Needham, bassist-percussionist and co-founder, Editor’s note) and I started this band to have fun, to escape boredom, we don’t forget that. “
“We’re talking about Brexit, love is over! “
James’ Speaking-word poses a sharp social commentary and unstoppable formulas on the post-punk sounds developed by Ryan. Spot on: it is as difficult not to stomp on their refrains as it is to resist this typically British humor and a disarming lucidity: “We have listened a lot to the Sleaford Mods and the Americans of Guided By Voices, admits James. We’re talking about Brexit, containment and Britain, but frankly, what do you want us to talk about? Of love ? It’s over, that. Crazy and brilliant, the duo, which has become a quartet, never prepare a set-list before a concert: they play what they want, as and when they want. The only condition: give everything. Yes, it’s going to be hot this Thursday at the Metronum.
