The authors of Toulouse are hyperactive in this fall 2021. The literary re-entry has been abundant and a large and rich panel awaits you in the stalls of your favorite bookseller.
At Ombres Blanches, in salons or on the internet, here are the books to get urgently.
For lovers of Toulouse
Christian Authier is one of the great literary talents of the Pink City. Press man and scholar of his favorite city, in which he landed in 1975 at the age of 5, he signs, after “Half a century”, with “A little praise in love with Toulouse” (Privat editions. 17.90 euros) both an educational and historical work on the changes of the 4e city of France, but also a walk full of poetic reverie. “Toulouse is for me a sort of private diary in the open air. Toulouse has probably inhabited me more than I have inhabited it, ”he wrote by way of introduction.
Young and old, students, active: everyone finds themselves in this maëlstrom of anecdotes, places, lights.
Note that Christian Authier’s book is the first of the new collection of Privat, “Little praise of…”. Other cities, capitals, regions and mythical places will be on the menu in the coming months.
Another highlight at Privat, scheduled for Thursday, November 11, 2021: the release of “Toulouse – heritage in pictures” (price: 208 pages) with considerable work provided by the duo Jean-Francois Binet, architect, and Francois Brosse, graphic designer. A beautiful, richly illustrated book that comes in 30 episodes.
For thriller fans
Earlier in 2021, Nicolas druart, nurse in the Pink City, had released “The enclave” (Harper Collins editions. Price of 20 euros), a regional thriller with a dive into two departments, Lot and Aveyron, which will be sources of anguish and legends …
At the beginning of October 2021, the author had designed the treasure hunt for the 13e edition of the Toulouse Polars du Sud festival. But he has also, and above all, received the prestigious Prix de l’Embouchure, awarded each year in Toulouse by the Amicale de la police nationale.
A show which marked nearly 10,000 people and which rewarded three other works, like so many pages to crumple and imaginaries to search: “The Patience of the Immortal” by Michèle Pédinelli, Aube editions (France Bleu prize for the thriller), “This is not a love song” by Alessandro Robecchi, Aube editions (Violeta Negra Occitanie prize) and “One last balloon for the road” by Benjamin Dierstein, Les Arènes editions (columnists’ prize).
Back to school 2021 signs the new opus of Toulouse Cedric Sire. After “Vindicta”, he comes back with “The bleeding” (Fayard editions. 17.90 euros), a dive into the Dark Net and the horrors of the web, with live killings. It’s gory, terrifying, and very topical in online drifts.
To appreciate a first novel
Toulouse avocado Eric Lacassagne signs, with Pierre Gaussens, his first novel with “Double je au Capitole” (Slbylline editions. 18 euros), which plunges us into the municipal campaign of 2014. The pitch: “A candidate to drop. A tenacious lawyer. A cryptic running mate. A political universe which only holds up if one looks good, knows and follows the rituals of initiation and allegiance. A four-handed investigation where the secrets she seeks to unravel will not be those that will be revealed ”.
Another first novel to leaf through, that of Melissa Pontéry, entitled “Our certainties” (self-published, available on Amazon. 19.99 euros). The plot takes place between the walls of the Pink City and the lush green plains of Ireland. The terribly feminine book “recounts the evils and insecurities of a generation: the confusion of the thirties, the versatility of feelings, and the deep attachment of the first emotions”, indicates the author. A novel of introspection, reconstruction and resilience.
To come back to the AZF disaster
On September 21, 2021, Toulouse commemorated the 20th anniversary of the greatest post-war industrial disaster in France: the explosion of the AZF factory, route d’Espagne. A disaster that left 31 dead and 2,500 injured.

In “Fragments of the crash” (Editions Le pas d’oeil. Price of 15 euros), he tells about this crazy day, the fear of seeing his daughter die and the years of fighting that followed.
Another book to leaf through, that of Bertrand Vayssiere, “The AZF explosion, from the feeder factory to the murderous factory” (Midi-Pyrénées editions. Price: 6.80 euros).
