– Does not suit Norway – Dagsavisen
“I think it’s time to put that debate aside and rather spend time cheering on the boys,” Solberg told VG Saturday.
The next day, the Secretary General of Amnesty, John Peder Egenæs, reacts to Solberg’s proposal, and believes that she has nothing to do with the debate.
– I do not think Erna Solberg should try to cover up any debates in Norway – nor a debate about a possible boycott of the Qatar World Cup, Egenæs says to NRK.
– To say that football supporters should stop talking about what they are most concerned about does not suit Norway or democracy, he continues.
Solberg understands the criticism directed at her, but refers to the decision that was made at the extraordinary football meeting earlier this year. There was a vote against a boycott. However, she talks warmly about the markings the national team has made in the qualifying matches.
– It is fine with markings, but when it comes to the boycott, a decision has been made. I intend to respect that, says Solberg.
