Zurich Airport expected loss | Company consumption
(AWP) According to the latest forecast from Zurich Airport, around 10 million passengers will travel through Switzerland’s largest airport in 2021 as a whole. This corresponds to a third of the volume of 2019. And that is not enough for black numbers.
For the full year 2021, a “small loss” is still expected, the company announced on Wednesday evening. The background to this forecast is that it will take at least half as many to make a profit as before the crisis.
After all, the trend is pointing upwards. October alone contributed 1.61 million to the total of 8.02 million passengers who have flown in or out of Kloten since the beginning of the year. Thus, more than three times as many travelers were counted in this month as in October 2020. The volume from October 2019, i.e. the time before the coronavirus, was thus reached at 56.2%.
The improved October figures also contributed to the fact that the airport was in the black in the third quarter, as it was said.
Lower investment
According to the announcement, the airport can cope with the loss for the full year. The liquidity is currently over 500 million NS.
It was also stated that investments were being scaled back. Only 200 million would be invested at the Zurich location in the current year, only 50 million abroad due to a delay in the start of construction in India. At the end of August, investments in Switzerland of 220 million and abroad of 100 million had been announced.
The running costs have also fallen, the message continues. On the other hand, real estate income will grow thanks to additional income from the circle. And the company’s international positioning is also an advantage. Income from international business recovered faster than that at the Zurich location. The high proportion of domestic travelers and the airports in Latin America in particular would have contributed to this.
