More than 1.3 million lottery tickets are sold daily. The Parliament of the Republic of Moldova forbids their publicity
This is what the deputies of the Action and Solidarity Party say, who presented in the Parliament an initiative that forbids the advertising of gambling. The draft was voted on Thursday, November 11, in first reading.
One of the project authors, PAS deputy Dumitru Alaiba, stated that, if in 2017 the annual revenue from ticket sales amounted to 3.4 million, in 2020 it increased to 613 million lei, and in the first eight months of this year – up to 2.6 billion lei. And if in 2017 425 thousand lottery tickets were sold, from the beginning of this year until August – 328 million tickets.
“These figures should not say about a serious addiction to this industry, addiction to gambling. It is a growing catastrophe. The first thing that fuels this addiction is the advertising of gambling, which is so aggressive “, noted Dumitru Alaiba.
The project prohibits the advertising of all types of games of chance – lotteries, bets on competitions and sporting events and current lotteries. These include advertising on radio and television, in the print media, in film and video services, on the Internet, with the use of networks, as well as on outdoor advertising, in means of transport or by post.
The legislative initiative is to be examined and approved in the final reading.
