Vienna has its own Wall of Names. A memorial to the Jewish victims of Nazism
Only candles and solemn silence. A sign of respect for that list of names that seems endless, the names of 64 thousand Austrian Jewish citizens murdered by the Nazis. One by one they were engraved on the stone of that wall which has now become a Memorial. Visiting the Wall of Names of Vienna for the inauguration also the Austrian Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg.
A monument that reminds Austria that it was not only a victim of barbarie Nazi. “For too long the country has been exclusively a victim of National Socialism. The Wall of Names it extends over 160 granite panels in a park of over 2 thousand square meters. Before the Second World War, there are almost 200,000 Jews in Austria. Most of them were killed or fled the country. Nowadays, their Jewish community only numbers around 10,000 people.
